January ramblings

This afternoon my four year old declared, “Mom, you have got to change into another person!”

I wasn’t sure that I wanted to hear what was going to come next… I wondered if he could sense my insecurities about not living up to the “better person” that I’d like to be… or maybe he wished I could morph into a Super Mom who always had stimulating preschool crafts at the ready on a gloomy January day… or perhaps he envisioned a mom who didn’t constantly wear a long fuzzy bathrobe over her normal daytime clothes in an attempt to stay warm (in the same house that the male family members complain of sweating in)…

I asked him what he meant.

“You know…like a fireman…or a postman…or a doctor. Or even a bank person.” (The “bank people” give out lollypops, so I know why that is one of his favs. I have to admit I was surprised that the postman and doctor were in the running for ‘coolest occupation from a preschool standpoint’. Although now that I think about it, he very well could have meant “policeman” instead of “postman”. They sound very much alike when spoken in Kaleb-ese.)

“I don’t like phot-aah-graphers…I like crazy firemen who can touch fires. Or you could be an alligator. That would be cooler than a phot-aah-grapher.”

Hmmm. He may have a point about the coolness factor.

I, however, am very happy to be a photographer. If I were a fireman or an alligator, I would have never captured this of my two little guys…
