Sleep baby, sleep.

A couple from a newborn session today. Gorgeous home, adorable baby, sweet mom...but baby did not want to sleep. It was a looong afternoon! :)

Sauce and splashes

...are Micah's two favorite things. Applesauce and bath time, that is. He is such a determined child. Today he single-handedly threw soap, toys, and a candle (left over from mom's own soaking) into the tub, climbed in, and turned on the (cold, luckily, as he's a big fan of ***hot***) water. And yes, he still had his clothes on. Never a dull moment here.

Oh yeah, and this isn't the best example, but I got The Look. :)

Photographer's Kid

Why is it so difficult for photographers to capture their own kids? I hear that again and again. And it's true. Maybe because we've used up the novelty of the camera practicing? Maybe because our artistic vision gets in the way? Maybe we are too picky? I'm not sure. I have countless photos of my oldest son, Kaleb, but I when I try to choose one that really captures who he is...I'm at a loss. I wish I could show you how he whispers, "You're always my mother" at bedtime...or how he tries to hold back a smile when he's proud of himself...or how he taps his fingertips together when he is excited to talk about something. I just can't seem to capture the moments I love most. Maybe I need to try harder. Or not try so hard. Or maybe those pictures are only supposed to stay in my memories...

Expression of the week

I just love this kid. Part of it is his age, I'm sure (16 mos.), but he is so expressive. I crave the challenge of capturing his many faces (especially given his lightening fast toddler speed!). He seems to create a "silly expression of the week". When he tires of a specific face, it seldom returns again. Two weeks ago Micah fell and shattered a front tooth, and sadly, it had to be pulled. By the next morning he had a new goofy expression...his lips closed with his tongue just barely peeking out, dimples creasing, of course. I just adored it, but was too preoccupied with the missing tooth to remember to photograph The Look. It has occasionally reappeared over the past few days (usually when he's thinking about doing something he shouldn't!), so my goal this week is to capture it before it's gone forever. Here are some former "weekly specials"...

Hi.

Hi. I guess I should start by introducing myself. I'm a photographer living in Indianapolis with my two adorable (in my opinion!) sons and wonderful husband. I've been writing a blog in my head for a while now, and thought that I should finally get it down in words. Anyway, here we are...
